Students
helping themselves to free ice cream learned how they
could help others as Habitat for Humanity partnered
with Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream to promote awareness
on campus Friday afternoon.
Representatives
from Habitat for Humanity International and the South
Bay-Long Beach chapter were at the North Lawn Walkway
to inform students about the organizations, with the
ultimate goal of starting a campus chapter at Cal
State Long Beach.
"Campus
chapters work with affiliates on building chapters,
educating students and fund-raising," said Alynn
Woodson of Habitat for Humanity International. "There
are currently 600 around the world in the U.S. and
13 other countries."
Some students
were attracted to the event by name recognition.
"I
was just walking by after flag football and I saw
the Habitat for Humanity sign and it rang a bell,"
said senior business and Japanese major Jay Fratangelo.
"I volunteered for a weekend event to help build
a shelter."
