State official to visit

By Gerald Frazier
Daily Forty-Niner

Assemblywoman Sally Havice will be visiting Cal State Long Beach Friday as part of a meeting sponsored by the California State Employee Association.

The CSEA, which is a labor union on campus, sponsors Havice and asked her to come and speak at its chapter meeting.
Havice has continually supported the CSULB chapter 100 percent in their legislature, said Anne Staskewicz secretary of treasury for the CSULB chapter.

"She has supported many of our bills," Staskewicz said. "In return we give campaign donations to her."

Havice is running for her third term as Democratic 56th state assemblywoman. Coming to CSULB and talking to the labor union should add to her support, Staskewicz said. The assemblywoman, she said, is one of three labor-friendly assembly members that have visited, or will visit the campus.

The CSULB chapter wants to drum up support for their campaigns and allow them to answer questions from the constituency, Staskewicz said.

"They try to get volunteers for their phone banking and their precinct walking," she said.

The meeting is scheduled to be held from 12-1 p.m. in CBA 140A.
