The
University Interfaith Center will be holding its annual
food drive to coincide with World Food Day, running
from Monday, Oct. 16 through Friday, Oct. 27.
"The
16th is World Food Day, so in connection with that
we will be kicking off our annual food drive,"
said United Methodist Campus Minister Mary Kay Will.
"We'll have boxes for collection in various places
throughout the campus, like in the Foundation Building."
The
food collected from the food drive will go to the
Los Angeles Food Bank, which will serve the Los Angeles
and Long Beach areas.
"I
think the good thing about this is that the food will
go back to the people in the area," Will said.
Will
said she encourages people on campus to give as much
as they can.
"The
key is non-perishable food, like boxed or canned goods,"
she said. "It's all needed ... everything will
help."
The
center is not putting a goal on how much food it wants
to raise, Will said, but hopes that the entire campus
will make a contribution.
"We're
trying to fill up as many boxes of food as we possibly
can," Will said. "The more boxes the better."
