Napster,
the news-making company that has allowed easy access
to MP3s, has started a recent trend in the audio world.
Instead of compact disc players, there are MP3 players,
pioneered by Diamond's Rio.
Now, Iomega,
a company well-known for making zip drives, is coming
out with their own version of a digital audio player:
the HipZip.
To kick
it off, Iomega is touring across the country, stopping
at Cal State Long Beach on Wednesday, from 11 a.m.
to 2 p.m. The representatives will be on the North
Lawn in front of the University Student Union. Previous
stops included Boston, Seattle and New York.
"A
lot of students are into the technology and the HipZip,"
said Sylvana Cicero, assistant director of the Program
Council, adding that there will be "free giveaways
and fun stuff for students."
The HipZip
Demo Tour, sponsored by the University Student Union
and Planet Graph-X, will include a listening station
for "hands on interaction" with their new
products, and a booth with representatives to answer
questions about their products.
The program
was developed to educate consumers about Iomega products
by letting them know about the latest technology.
This is
a great opportunity for the graphics area of the school,
Cicero said.
