H.B. Surround
Sound, who will play today at noon in the Student
Union South Plaza, are far from a conventional rock
band. They boast such diverse influences as Sublime,
the Beatles, Bob Marley, Bad Religion, The Beastie
Boys, NOFX and many others.
The diverse
musical tone and wide range of influences result in
Surround Sound having a variety of fans. The band
is looking forward to branching out their audience
even further with their Union performance.
"I
am so excited to play at Cal State Long Beach,"
said Jake Bushnell, the drummer. "That is where
Sublime got started. Bradly went there."
With the
release of their new twenty-song, self-titled album,
Surround Sound was the one of the top-ten sellers
at the local independent music store Bionic Records
for eight straight weeks with little promotion.
All the
members of Surround Sound hail from Huntington Beach
and are in their 20s. Many of their songs promote
anti-violence through their lyric including "Another
Song of Freedom," "Good Times" and
"A Fist Can't Change a Mind."
Even with
their success in local record sales, Surround Sound's
strength is in their live performance. Their raw energy
and love for music never fails to transform a crowd.
They have
performed all across the West Coast from New Mexico
to San Francisco where they have opened for many bands
which include Eek-A-Mouse in June 2000 and Pato Bon
Ton Nov. 5th at the Galaxy Theatre.
Dominating
the local Orange County scene, Surround Sound has
played Linda's Doll Hut, Liquid Den, 13th floor and
The Warehouse 21, and many private bookings.
