The Long
Beach music scene is coming back to life.
The band
Chapter 11 played at the of the University Student
Union West Patio Tuesday with songs that ranged from
hip-hop to reggae. With their unique sound, the band
slowly won over a majority of the small audience.
"I really
like the intense Reggie sound with out being too slow,"
said Dawn Thompson, a sophomore Liberal Studies major.
The band
got off to a slow start in their set, which started
15 minutes late. Not only did they lack energy but
also an audience. Only about 30 people were on hand
as the band kicked into their opening number "Just
Another Day."
However
before the end of their set, the band hit their stride,
despite not having their guitar player, and met the
approval of the audience.
Kim Ridley,
a senior Liberal Studies major was reminded of another
famous Long Beach band.
"They sound
similar to Sublime with a more Reggie beat," she said.
Chapter
11 is not just another band as they boast a refreshingly
unique band structure featuring two drummers and a
female vocalist.
The fact
that the band has two drummers sets it apart from
the norm as the extra drummer seems to take the place
a lead guitar player would fill in a typical rock
lineup.
Although
featured singer Rae was the only woman on stage at
Tuesday's performance, she was not mere stage decoration,
but a strong contributor to the band's performance
with an amazingly clear voice.
