Industry designers come to campus

For the first time
in the history of the University College andExtension Services, Cal State
Long Beach, six students completed a comprehensive course curriculum developed
by costume classes.
The students were
awarded professional designation in costuming for film and television for
completing the curriculum, which includes five core courses and two elective
workshops.
An event titled "A
Panel of Design" will take place Aug. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the
Costume Designers Guild in Sherman Oaks.
Industry professionals
will review the student’s portfolios during a working brunch.
Guests will include
Robert Turturice, president emeritus of the Costume Designers Guild; Jacqueline
Saint Anne, president emeritus of the Costume Designers Guild; Shay Cunliff,
costume designer; and Susanna Sandke, president of the Motion Picture Costumers.
These designers will
give a individual critiques to the graduates and provide feedback on their
projects, resumes and portfolios.
The 1998-99 core
courses for the professional designation include: Costuming Budgets and
Breakdowns, Costume Continuity for Film and Television, Professional Practices,
Resume to Wrap (Pre-Production, Production and Post-Production), Design
Concepts and Character Development, plus two electives: Introduction to
the Workroom and Ageing, Distressing and Dyeing.
