A gala reception
and screening of the award winning film, “Show Me Love,” marked the opening
of the Outfest film festival, the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival,
at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood.
Outfest 1999, which
opened on July 8th and runs until the 19th, marked the 17th anniversary
of one of Los Angeles’ largest film festivals. More than 250 films and
videos created by, for or about gay men and lesbians will be screened at
venues throughout Hollywood and Los Angeles.
The mission of Outfest
is to build bridges among audiences, filmmakers and the entertainment industry
through the exhibition of high-quality gay, lesbian and bisexual films,
said Morgan Rumpf, executive director of the festival.
“We are so proud
of this festival,” Rumpf said. “We have gathered films from all over the
world to show Los Angeles the very best in gay and lesbian entertainment.”
