  • Maxine Merlino, 86, former dean of the School of Arts at Cal State Long Beach and holder of 179 swimming world records, was recently inducted into the Swimmer’s Hall of Fame in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

  • 'Summer of Sam' stumbles with story

  • It’s the summer of 1977 in New York City. The days are sweltering, and the steamy nights infuse citizens with a sense of unrest. Disco is at its peak, the cocaine craze is in full swing, and punk rock is beginning to show its bizarre face on the street scene. Blackouts are common place from power failures, and Reggie Jackson is beginning to make things sizzle for the Yankees.

  • Will Smith's flick flounders

  • Funny men Will Smith (Jim West) and Kevin Kline (Artemus Gordon) team up in Director Barry Sonnenfield’s remake of the ‘60s television series, the “Wild Wild West.”

  • Soundtrack includes talented artist

  • Movie soundtracks are for the commitment phobic. The album is a compilation of many artists so the buyer does not have to make a choice of which singer is more worthy of his or her $15.
