Basketball fans who were disappointed with
the short NBA season this year have reason to celebrate. The 1999
Summer Pro League will once again be held at Cal State Long Beach.
Entering its fourth year at CSULB, the
summer league will be held daily at The Pyramid from July 9 through
August 1, playing five games daily.
Twelve professional teams are scheduled
to play, including the L.A. Lakers, Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic.
In the past, the Summer Pro League has
played host to basketball greats such as Magic Johnson, Karl Malone and
Nick Van Exel. Although there have not been confirmations of such
players this year, the league expects a handful of stars to compete this
summer.
NBA coaches use the league to test out
many of its new draft picks, as well as, scout for new players.
