Aid for students

Cal State Long Beach financial aid students enrolled in summer session may be receiving a $130 scholarship from the University College and Extension Services.

In order to be eligible for this scholarship, students must have a 1998-1999 financial aid application on file, be in good university standing, said Gloria Kapp, Director of financial aid.

The financial aid office identifies who is a recipient for this scholarship based on criteria and notifies the University College and Extension Services, Kapp said.

“I think the scholarship helps students a lot, it puts a break on the summer fees,” Kapp said. “Overall it is a small incentive to take more classes in the summer.”
If students register for a summer class they need to wait 30 days before they obtain their scholarships, Kapp said.

Students need to enroll in three or more units in summer session in order to be recipients for the scholarship, Kulju said.

Students who enroll late for summer session lessen their chances of receiving scholarships since aid is based on a first-come-first-served basis, Kulju said.

“It all depends on whether or not we have funds left over,” Kulju said.
