  • Local CFA has low turnout 

  • With the lowest voter turnout systemwide, local union faculty members voted to accept the tentative labor contract with the California State University last month, according to the union’s Web site.
     
  • Student trustees OK'd 

  • Increased student representation on the California State University Board of Trustees is one step closer to being a reality after legislation was approved last week by the California State Assembly.
     
  • University and L.B. police join forces 

  • The University Police and the Long Beach Police Department conducted a joint training exercise last week on the Cal State Long Beach campus. 
  • Teachers are watchdogs 

  • As violence in classrooms and schools increase across the country, teachers are asked to go beyond education. 


  • No more waiting in lines for Star Wars 

  • Obi-Wan Kenobi on the bucket of chicken at KFC, Queen Amidala beach towels at Bloomingdale’s, Anakin Skywalker on your Taco Bell cup; you can’t escape it. “Star Wars: Episode I-The Phantom Menace” is everywhere. After 16 years of a Star Wars dry spell, the phenomenon wave has erupted once again. 
     
  • Master P needs lyrical help 

  • Master P and his No Limit All Stars fall short with their new compilation CD, entitled “Who U Wit?”  The instrumentals, produced primarily by Beats by the Pound, feature some enticing sounds, however, the lyrics suffer from uninventive writing and leave the listener hoping for more. 
     
  • 'Instinct' gives primal fears 

  • Academy Award winners Cuba Gooding Jr. and Anthony Hopkins return to the big screen in “Instinct.”

  • Coach renews contract 

  • Women’s basketball head coach Dallas Boychuk recently signed a three-year contract that will continue her coaching through 2002.
     
  • Head coach replaced 

  • The 49ers men’s water polo head coach Ricardo Azevedo, who was hired this past February, will also be the interim women’s water polo coach for the 1999-2000 season.
