Head coach replaced

The 49ers men’s water polo head coach Ricardo Azevedo, who was hired this past February, will also be the interim women’s water polo coach for the 1999-2000 season.

Director of Athletics Bill Shumard announced that Azevedo is replacing Sandy Vessey-Schneider, who resigned on May 20 to spend more time with her family.

“I think that the current program is coming along very well heading into its third year,” said Azevedo. 

“His [Ricardo’s] vast experience and national reputation will enhance both the men’s and women’s teams,” said Shumard. 

The women’s water polo team was 16-22 last year and finished 11th at the College Nationals.
