The University Police and the Long Beach
Police Department conducted a joint training exercise last week on the
Cal State Long Beach campus.
The joint operation was used to prepare
the officers in practicing response scenarios in case a violent event occurs
at CSULB, such as the Columbine High School shooting incident in April,
said Jack C. Pearson, CSULB Chief of Police.
In a formation that would be used during
an emergency, the officers went through the building, checking rooms, clearing
corridors and searching for victims, Pearson said.
The tactical training included procedures
such as extracting victims safely out of a building, isolating the location
of suspects and keeping the suspects detained until negotiators can be
called in, said Pearson.
The training exercise took place in the
Physical Education and AAS buildings and went according to schedule, said
Pearson.
