Senior left handed pitcher Mike Gallo was selected in the fifth round by the Houston Astros.

Gallo summed-up his feelings on being selected on day one of the draft.

"This is a dream come true," Gallo said. "I'm getting kind of emotional. When the coaches called me and said that I was going to get a phone call from the team that drafted me, I started bouncing off the walls."

Gallo, who lead the 49ers' pitching staff in nearly every category, said he started believing he could become a professional last year after his performance at the College World Series.

Relief pitcher Jeremy Ward was the first 49er selected with the 71st overall pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Outfielder Terrmel Sledge was the selected by the Seattle Mariners in the seventh round of the draft.
