Feldman offers new support for CSULB

Stephen Feldman had never seen the Cal State Long Beach campus until December of last year. He is now one of the most important players in CSULB administration.

His primary jobs include raising money and providing resources for the university.

He is involved in boosting the image of the university and helping the community understand that the faculty is top notch.

This March, Feldman became the new vice president of University Relations and Development. His works includes getting gifts and money for the university through outside resources.

"It's very important to me to meet the specific needs of the students and faculty," Feldman said.

KLON, all university publications, special events and alumni relations and development are also included in his list of responsibilities.

When asked what attracted him to the university, he listed the "outstanding, superb faculty" and the broad variety of accredited majors offered at the university .

He also described the university as very physically attractive, set in a good geographic location.

Feldman did not hesitate to share his excitement about working with President Robert Maxson who he said showed "fantastic vision for the university."

He said his newest challenge is to raise scholarship money for the President's Scholar Program.

"We exist as a university to allow the faculty to teach students, to prepare students for their futures and to allow faculty to do research," Feldman said. "Everything has to support these missions."

Feldman served as a university president in Connecticut and Florida for 13 years.

He has also served as instructor,professor, dean, department chair and board member of private companies, charities and hospitals.
