A musical tale of mutiny and mayhem, "Muppet Treasure Island," is the funniest muppet movie yet.
More than 400 muppets, together with more humans than have ever been featured in a muppet movie, take part in this twisted adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic Treasure Island.
Along with the cast of muppet regulars, star Tim Curry as Long John Silver, Scottish comedian Billy Connolly as a besotted former pirate, and Jennifer Saunders from the comedy sitcom "Absolutely Fabulous." Musical selections were written by Barry Mann and Academy Award winner Cynthia Well, the cast is astonishingly funny. The only thing missing is the twang to Kermit's voice that only Jim Henson could supply.
Kermit stars as the dashing Captain Smelt, who meets up with the ever-violent Miss Piggy, starring as the leopard-clad queen of the the warthogs. After four movies Miss Piggy has not yet been able to control her natural aggressions, but manages to rough up her enemies with style.
Kermit and Miss Piggy have not lost their legendary charisma, and often upstage their human co-stars, an example seen during their love duet, which they sing hanging upside down.
Ridiculous stunts and shameless gags are what the muppets are famous for and this 18th century pirate setting brings out the best in them.
