Spikers sweep Utah State

The Cal State Long Beach women's volleyball team trounced Utah State Friday and Saturday, sweeping the Aggies in two matches.

Sophomore setter Heather Hofmans led the team in Friday's match with 32 assists and shared the team lead in digs with team captain and senior outside hitter Nichelle Burton, who h e Aggies in just 50 minutes, 15-4, 15-4, 15-2.

Burton led the 49ers with 16 kills and Dahl added another 14 . The 49ers displayed solid defense as they combined for a total of 44 digs.

The two victories increased the 49ers record to 6-2 overall, 2-0 in the Big West Conference.

This weekend, New Mexico State and Nevada will come to town to tangle with the National Champions.

In cross country action, Christa Ayuso and Pat Bendzick had the best times for the Cal State Long Beach cross-country teams this weekend at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego.

Ayuso finished in 12th place with a time of 19:28, as the women's team finished third with 87 points. Bendzick finished 13th with a time of 26:52 to lead the men's team, whic h finished last in the event with 154 points.
