The Cal State Long Beach Associated Students Senate rejected all 1995-96 A.S. budget appeals from various student clubs and organizations in Wednesday's Senate meeting.

The appeals were to request funding increases for annual programs and events that these student clubs and organizations have scheduled for the 1995-96 school year.

Programs and events that appealed included the Black Consciousness Conference sponsored by the Black Cultural Programming Committee, the middle school outreach program sponsored by the Ptahhotep Grand Nubians and Queens of Imani, the Student Philosophy Association Spring Symposium, and several events sponsored by the La Raza Student Association, including the Chicana/Latina Conference, Dia de los Ni–os and the Chicano high school outreach program.

Each of the afore mentioned clubs and organizations, as well as several others scheduled programs and events, have a significantly smaller budget than they have had for this current year; some budgets for next year have decreased more than 60 percent.

However, A.S. Vice President Alma Salazar said that the smaller budgeting is due to the number of budget requests that have greatly increased for next year.

CSULB clubs and organizations received over $200,000 for this current school year, and budget requests for the 1995-96 school exceeded $515,000.

According to Salazar, in order to increase the budget for one organization's program, the money must be removed from the budget of another organization's program.

In addition, there is an 11 member vote required by the A.S. Senate in order to approve an appeal.

Salazar said that the clubs and organizations who went through the appeal process will be recommended to next year's Board of Control, and will be given first priority and consideration for next year's CSULB Current Year Unallocated Funds.
