University Police have identified the man arrested in the attempted kidnapping of a female Cal State Long Beach student in Whaley Park near Parkside Commons.
Robert Dean Iantorno, 45, is being held in lieu of $50, 000 bond on charges of attempted kidnapping, University Police detective Mike Wood said.
Iantorno was being held in the Long Beach City Jail while awaiting an April 7 arraignment. Wood said Iantorno has a prior arrest record but police were still attempting to determine the extent of that record.
"His prior arrest record is not automated, so we're having to check it through the Bureau of Criminal Identification in Sacramento," Wood said.
The attack occurred on March 16 as the victim was walking through the park across from Parkside Commons. Iantorno reportedly tried to grab the victim and carry her over a nearby fence but the victim was able to break free.
University Police brought the victim to the park where she identified the man as her attacker.
Wood said since the arraignment was held on April 7, pre-trial motion could begin as early this week.
