In today's market, students need resources and information to be ab le to find a job. In response, the Career Development Center on campus will offer new programs and extended hours.
Employer inquiries will have a faster response than other universities in the United States because of a fax resume system. A new database system will accommodate 5,000 graduating seniors and alumni by the end of the fall semester.
"Employers all over the United States can scan resumes," said Director Wade Hawley. "They can then be faxed a resume within minutes."
Why is the system geared tovward graduating seniors and alumni? Because many of the jobs that are being offered are for full - time employment located in different parts of the country.
"A majority of the students are getting hired in Southern California," Hawley said.
However, a new system is being tested that would put undergraduates in contact with CSULB alumni. Undergraduates also receive counseling.
The center offers full and part-time jobs as well as temporary and summer employment. Co-operative internships are also available to all majors. It allows students to gain valuable experience in preparation for one's career.
Each placement is screened so that work experience is related to one's major. Every year, the center receives requests for 21,000 full and part-time positions.
The center has a resource library that includes employer and career information. Free job placement information and a listing of job openings are also available to all students. A job search manual that explains interview techniques, marketing oneself and writing a resume is also offered at the center.
The center is located at SSA- 250. The new hours are: Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday.
