Stanley Maerowitz, one of the dearest friends
in the College of Liberal Arts, died Sunday night in his sleep at his Westminster
home. He was 56.
Since 1986, Maerowitz worked in the college's
Technical Services as an equipment systems specialist.
"He was not only a valuable staff member,
but a beloved friend to many of us," said Bill Grissom, technical support
services manager. "He was a warm, kind, and generous man who will be missed
beyond words."
Maerowitz suffered a heart attack seven
years ago and was known to have a heart condition.
He was born Aug. 2, 1943, in Washington,
D.C. He graduated from Mark
Koeppel High School and attended East
Los Angeles and Santa Ana colleges.
Maerowitz is survived by his wife, two
children and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon
at Harbor Lawn Memorial Park in Costa Mesa. The College of Liberal
Arts is also planning a memorial service next week, but no final plans
have been made.
Maerowitz's family has asked that any
donations be sent to the American Heart Association at 5801 Southeastern
Ave., Suite 130, City of Commerce, CA, 90040.
"Stan was the type of guy where you knew
when he was around," Grissom said. "He had such a booming voice. He was
like Santa Claus." |
