Odyssey to educate, entertain CSULB

By Patrick  Fujike
Daily Forty-Niner

It's back.

The university’s yearly series of lectures, performances, films and fieldtrips, The Odyssey Project, has kicked off the school year with its theme: The Community.

"The Odyssey provides a forum to discuss important ideas of our times," said Sharon Olson, director of University Academic Projects.

The Odyssey project has been around since 1996, and each year it presents a new theme.

"One of the reasons the project exists is to try to bring people together in the Long Beach Community," Olson said.
A list of this month’s events follows:

  • Famed science fiction writer Octavia Butler will speak Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. in CBA-140 and also at 2 p.m. in a location yet to be announced. Butler has won the Hugo and Nebula awards for her writing.
