Welcome week wows all

By Don Weberg
Daily Forty-Niner

Week of welcome activities kick off in the University Student Union's South Plaza with greek organizations and specialty clubs pushing recruitment to the in-coming and returning students.

Greeting students with cool sounds and tantalizing smells, the Associated Students Inc. fall 1999 Welcome Week festivities were in full swing Tuesday afternoon at the University Student Unionís South Plaza.

The enthusiastic moods of the many sororities and fraternities encouraging people to check out their organizations helped to create the festive atmosphere.  One club had a massive barbecue.

People wandered about with food and drink and paperwork from various clubs while talking with many representatives about their particular club activities.  Other clubs, such as the Circle K International Club, were in attendance to round up people.

"We are a community service club,"  said Rosemary Taylor, president of the Circle K International Club, which organizes everything from beach cleanups to helping the homeless at various shelters.
