OOSoul soothes audience with sound

By Don Weberg
Daily Forty-Niner

OOSoul's funky, punky retro meets modern style of play filled the air space Tuesday at the University Student Union South Plaza.

The sound, a plethora of '70s style funk similar to the soundtrack to Shaft, kept about 35 people entertained in a crowd of around 100.

OOSoul not only played funky stuff, but mixed in a groove of near old-fashioned rock 'n roll. When the band shifted from their funk or rock to a more R & B sound, the 35 moved on and were fluidly replaced by another 35 or so people.

Their mix of tunes allowed for a continuous rotation of people, pleasing someone all the time.

"It's loud, but itís good enough to be loud,"  said Tiffany Spears an undeclared freshman.

It was apparent that the band was a tad different from other bands. Each member had their own style.

While one member dressed in button down casual, another member sported a T-shirt and shorts with a hat.

The sight of them was a hint of the type of music they specialized in, which seemed to be any type -- with a thread of funk thrown in.

OOSoul's style was a great mix, and in that, they served something for everyone.

Their ability to interweave a retro-funk style sound in a rock patterned piece was incredible.
