In the upcoming "Mystery, Alaska" there
are only two things to do when the temperature drops below zero: Stay inside
with your spouse (or somebody else's), or get out and play hockey.
The legendary hockey players of Mystery
are born on skates. The weekly hockey game on the local "pond of dreams"
is more than a sport--itís a ritual celebration attended with religious
devotion.
But an article published in "Sports Illustrated"
prompts the National Hockey League to send the New York Rangers to challenge
these local heroes in a back-to-the-roots-of-hockey exhibition game.
Everybody in town is happy until the invading
corporate circus threatens to destroy the local sport. Will the boys of
winter transcend the hype and take on the Rangers in a real contest? Or
will they become a national joke?
The movie delivers strong performances
by Russel Crow and Burt Reynolds while the ever so versatile Hank Azaria
gets the job done as an ex-Mystery townie.
"Mystery, Alaska" is co-written by David
E. Kelley and Jay Roach. The movie opens nationwide on Oct. 1. |
