Led Zeppelin fans of the world unite.
Yet another release from the early '70s
rock 'n' roll gurus is bound to become a staple in the Zep-head collection.
"Early Days-The Best of Led Zeppelin Volume
1," a general compilation of their greatest hits, has 13 songs that even
those who weren't around in the band's heyday will recognize.
Guitar player Jimmy Page selected the songs
for the Atlantic Records release, most of which are rock classics such
as "Stairway to Heaven," "Black Dog" and "Whole Lotta Love."
The compact disc includes a live 1969 filming
of "Communication Breakdown," which can be played on the computer as an
enhanced video.
Atlantic touts the track as a "never-before-seen
live performance," in its press release.
The band is a staple of '60s hippies, members
of generation X and even generation next.
Their mixture of bluesy rock 'n' roll,
combined with Robert Plant's sultry and often wildly powerful voice, place
Zeppelin in a category all their own.
Album booklet pictures that chronicle the
band's history make the CD a must for die-hard fans.
For new fans and those too young to remember
the bands crazy earlier years, it is a window into the unknown.
Fans will also appreciate the compilation,
which features music from the band's 12 albums, for simply saving them
money that would have been spent on the $100-box set.
For those who wonder if there will ever
be a reunion of the remaining Zeppelin member, alas, it is very unlikely.
In early 2000, the second part of the collection,
"Latter Days- The Best of Led Zeppelin Volume 2," will be released. |
