Air Force

Lessons are sometimes painful to learn.
The Long Beach State men's basketball team
was taught a lesson this weekend, going 0-2 at the Syracuse Carrier Classic
tournament.
"I think the team got to see the level
of play from another part of the country," Morgan said.
"I have a feeling that our players know
that we have to work hard and continue to improve."
LBSU guard Ramel Lloyd said the team's
mood right now is quiet, but confident.
"We just need to get a win," Lloyd said.
"We are positive we are going to get this win."
They hope to use what they learned at Syracuse
against the Air Force Academy tonight.
Team captain of the 49ers Antrone Lee said
the weekend was filled with lost opportunities.
"There are games that we should have
won but they outworked us and out-executed us." Lee said.
"We just got to get better."
The 49ers (2-3) are winless on the road
this season, losing at Pepperdine and twice at Syracuse.
Tonight's opponent, the Falcons (2-3) are
not a traditional powerhouse basketball team. Head Coach Reggie Minton
has a career record of 144-279 in his 15-plus years as the head coach of
Air Force, having never finished over .500.
The 49ers will have to deal with playing
the game at the altitude of 7,000 feet above sea level.
"We are trying to get used to the air up
here," Lloyd said.
49er point guard Charles O'Neal is still
having health problems and has been sick.
Whether he plays or not will be a game
time decision.
The 49ers rebounded from a rough Hawaiian
road trip over the Thanksgiving weekend to play their strongest game of
the season, beating Oregon State 66-56 Sunday afternoon at The Pyramid
LBSU's center Rhonda Smith tied a school
record with nine blocks while adding 24 points and nine rebounds.
The women's next game is at 7:30 tonight
when they face off with the University of Southern California at The Pyramid.
