Buses rerouted due to repairs

Minor road repairs this weekend will completely
close the roadway connecting West Campus and State University drives, causing
some buses to be rerouted.
The area, called the West Campus Turnaround,
will be closed to traffic starting at 5 a.m. Saturday and ending at 5 a.m.
Monday.
All Long Beach Transit buses will be rerouted
to avoid the closure, according to the Long Beach Transit. Lines 91 and
94, as well as the Passport D, will not enter the campus.
They will continue along Bellflower Boulevard.
About 600 square feet of damaged concrete
at the southernmost transition to the asphalt road will be replaced Saturday
and Sunday, said Michael Kelly, spokesman for Physical Planning and Facilities
Management.
"The concrete is failing and sinking,"
Kelly said.
"It doesn't represent any hazards at the
moment, but it must be replaced to prevent them."
Some minor inconveniences are expected,
as with any construction, but the entrance to Lot 4 and Brotman Hall access
will remain open.
Noise from the jackhammers and machinery
will not be disruptive to campus departments or the community, Kelly said.
The university was looking for a good time
to do the repairs and this seemed to be it, Kelly said.
These repairs will be the last of the road
repairs to campus roads in the foreseeable future, Kelly said.
The repair is a little portion of work
left over from last summer's improvement project.
Notices were sent to many departments on
campus advising them of the closure, Kelly said. |
