Coach honors top athletes

The men's and women's Long Beach State
cross country teams handed out team awards Friday.
Head coach Andy Sythe handed out awards
for lettermen, scholar athletes, team captain awards, most improved awards,
and most valuable athletes.
"It has been a great time," Sythe said
about his athletes and his graduating seniors.
"We are going to miss you a lot."
The most valuable athlete awards went to
Monica MacManus for the women and Johann Appell for the men.
The scholar athlete awards went to Appell
and President Scholar Melanie Wuerstle.
Most improved went to Molly Roche' and
Wayne Stickney-Smith.
Team captain awards went to Kim Jackson
and Derek DeCicco.
Letter winners for the women's team were
Kelly Dickerson, Bree Frigo, Danielle Gassman, Bree Hunter, Kim Jackson,
MacManus and Roche'.
The men's letter winners were Appell, DeCicco,
Larry Henderson, Mark Parilla, Mike Solis and Stickney Smith.
Also receiving an award was Sythe from
the National Track and Field Officials Committee Outstanding Service Award.
Susan Rose presented this award to Sythe.
Rose is a long time USA track and field
official.
She is also the widow of Jack Rose who
is a former track coach at CSULB.
Jack will be inducted to the USA Track
Coaches Association Hall of Fame in December.
As for the future of the cross country
team Sythe said that the future was promising. "We are going to make it
because our staff and out athletes." |
