A Long Beach man arrested for marijuana
cultivation over the weekend was released from the city jail Tuesday afternoon
pending formal charges by the District Attorney's Office, police said.
John C. Diaz was booked Saturday afternoon
for cultivation of marijuana after police were alerted to a strong odor
permeating from a residence in the 1000 block of East Fifth Street, said
Officer Jana Blair of the Long Beach Police Department.
Acting on a tip from neighbors, police
raided the 32-year-old Diaz's central Long Beach home and found several
live marijuana plants along with the drying buds in and around the home's
bathrooms, Blair said.
"Once inside, officers confiscated more
than 8 pounds of marijuana," Blair said.
"They also found lighting equipment [for
cultivation]."
The plants had an estimated street value
of $15,000, Blair said.
Diaz was held on a $50,000 bond at Long
Beach City Jail throughout the weekend, and because he was not formally
charged, he was released on his own recognizance, Blair said.
"[Detectives] will continue with their
investigation throughout the week," Blair said.
"They will take all additional information
to the District Attorney's [Office], who decides [what to do] from there."
Diaz was initially booked for marijuana
cultivation, although the District Attorney Office has not yet formally
filed charges because the office is awaiting the outcome of the police
investigation, Blair said. |
