'Friends' won't be enjoyed by mainstream

Fans of the TV show "Friends" will enjoy
the compact disc "Friends Again."
Jumping on the coattails of the popularity
of its TV counterpart, "Friends Again" features upbeat tunes from a variety
of artists including Smash Mouth, Semisonic, Waltons and Lisa Loeb.
However, the album is hard to appreciate
with its syrupy tunes.
The album is not very enjoyable, compared
to the TV show.
Most of the songs aren't strong and couldn't
stand alone on another album.
Affiliation with the show is the saving
grace for many of the featured artists.
The CD does compliment the show well and
keeps its fun, zesty and peppy themes.
Soundbites from the show intersect the
songs and bring the listener back to the TV show.
But although the album wins brownie points
for hard-core "Friends" fans, "Friends Again" is not for everyone.
Semisonic fans will enjoy the newly recorded
version of "Delicious," the best song on the compilation.
"Friends Again" accomplishes what it is
meant to; capturing the mood of "Friends."
But the album falls short in areas such
as great songs or great musicians. |
