Double- sided racism
People have such double standards when it
comes to race relations. And because racism is still such a major problem
in this country, we have to eliminate these hypocrisies.
This double standard is evident when black
students wear a Malcom X shirt or a black pride badge.

If a white person were to wear a button
or a shirt that says "I am proud because I am white," people would be offended.
He would be met with surprised stares and
accusations of racism.
But nobody ever questions the motives of
black or Latino students who wear similar clothes.
Maybe white people brought it on themselves.
They have enjoyed military, political and
economic superiority in this country for more than 200 years.
Now these minorities who have been persecuted,
oppressed and downtrodden can feel pride in their ethnicity.
But to say these people have more of a
right to be proud of their identity than white people is outrageous.
This double standard is just one of the
many conditions that perpetuate the hate and violence that has plagued
this nation for so long.
We need to learn from the past, not dwell
on it.
Society has to cover a lot of ground before
we can end racism.
The only way to stop the hate is to accept
each other for who we are.
History is not the only thing that makes
us who we are, it is the way we treat the people we meet.
