Getaways good for piece of mind
As you leisurely stroll the walkways of Cal
State Long Beach en route to your classes you have probably noticed the
beauty of the campus.
After a while, the beauty may fade as you
shuffle through the concrete jungle.

To get away for a day, a trip to Catalina
Island will lift your spirits.
It will be quite different from tackling
a math problem.
I went to Catalina Island on a dorm trip.
I'm happy I went.
I had a great time and was left feeling
rejuvenated.
My experiences on Catalina Island were
both good and bad.
Fortunately, the good aspects of the trip
outweighed the bad.
The boat ride, with the sounds and smell
of the salty ocean, was refreshing.
When we arrived on the island, the first
thing we thought about was food.
We went to a restaurant overlooking Avalon
harbor for breakfast.
Unfortunately, we waited 20 minutes for
a table.
The waitress sat my us in the back of the
restaurant at a table with no view.
The table was a little wobbly, but according
to the growling of my stomach, this was not a problem.
After ordering drinks, my friends decided
they really wanted a view with their breakfasts.
The waitress told us we would have to wait
another 15 minutes for a booth with a view.
Fortunately, a much sought-after booth
with a view became available just as we were ready to leave.
I ordered Papa's special because it was
the most expensive meal on the menu.
Papa's special turned out to be Papa's
mush.
My disappointment with breakfast did not
last long.
The ocean around the island is supposed
to be very clear, but we went snorkeling late in the day and visibility
was not at its best.
If your workload gets too tough and you
are stressed out, do yourself a favor.
Take the time to find a change of scenery
on lovely Catalina Island.
