A Cal State Long Beach professor will be
reading his award-winning poetry compilation Thursday at the University
of Wisconsin.
Professor Charles Webb won the 1999 Felix
Pollak Prize in Poetry from the University of Wisconsin earlier this year
for "Liver," his poetry compilation.
The University of Wisconsin Press also
awarded him $1,000.
Webb, who has been a faculty member at
CSULB since 1984, has published 10 books including fictional novels.
This is the fourth award he has won for
his poetry over the last two years.
The University of Wisconsin Press is "a
very prestigious publishing house in the world of poetry," Webb said.
After receiving 900 entries, the Wisconsin
Press narrowed the number of candidates to 20 finalists.
"These are blind competitions, so the judges
don't know who the author is," said Webb, who has been a finalist of the
prize twice. |
