Special events close parking

We should all feel privileged to attend a school such as Cal State Long Beach.

The landscape is beautiful, the curriculum is excellent, and the president is one of the friendliest men you will ever meet.

This is a great school not only for students, but also for the Long Beach community.

There are a variety of special events each week that bring people of all ages to the campus.

From concerts to festivals to workshops, you name it and CSULB has got it.

These events are great for anyone who doesn't have to pay a parking fee to attend.

However, they can be a nuisance for some students.

Students are allowed to park in restricted parking lots after 6 p.m.

This is convenient for those people who do not want to have to walk a mile in the dark to class.

The parking lots by the Theatre Arts building and behind the Psychology building are ideal spots.

O.K., here is the scenario.

It's 6:30 p.m. and you've got a 7 o'clock class in one of the Liberal Arts buildings.

You attempt to park behind the Psychology building, but the barrier is down.

In front of it there is a sign explaining that the lot is reserved for attendants of a special event.

Some event!  There's only about 10 cars in the lot.

You drive on, hoping to grab a spot by the theater. But that lot has the same annoying yellow and black stick blocking the entrance.

You end up having to park by the dorms, wait for the shuttle alone in the dark for at least15 minutes.

We've all complained about the parking situation before.

I'm glad that there have been provisions for another lot. That's great.

But being a student here, I can't get too excited.

I see it as another lot to hold visitors' cars attending one of the many special events on campus and a lot that I won't be allowed to enter.
