  • Red flames illuminated the night sky as a fire ripped through a Bixby Hill Manor home near Cal State Long Beach Monday.

  • Nimah Nicholas, 26, of Mountain View could barely remember crossing the finish line Sunday as she clinched her first victory in the women's division at the 15th annual Isuzu Long Beach Marathon.

  • The third-largest crowd ever at The Pyramid turned out to watch the Long Beach State women's volleyball team lose to the University of Pacific in four games Saturday.

  • After trading goals all game, No. 3 USC scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal with 4:48 to play to defeat No. 5 Long Beach State, 9-6.
     
  • 49ers lose in double overtime

  • Although Thursday night's game was only an exhibition, the Long Beach State women's basketball team showed it still has improvements to make before the regular season starts Saturday.
