Today is the deadline for Cal State Long
Beach faculty, staff and students to nominate a CSULB faculty member for
the Wang Family Excellence Award, according to university officials.
"It's the first gift of its kind," said
Barbara Young, a representative of the Chancellor's Office.
Cal State University Board of Trustees
member Stanley Wang pledged a gift of $1 million to the CSU last year.
Over the next ten years, $100,000 of that gift will be awarded annually
to outstanding CSU faculty members and administrators, Young said.
"The reason why I am where I am today is
because of my education," Wang said.
"I want to share my success with the community
and with the people dedicated to education."
Four faculty members and one administrator
will be honored.
Each honoree will receive $20,000, said
Academic Senate members.
Each campus president may nominate one
faculty member from visual and performing arts, natural sciences, mathematical
and computer sciences, engineering, social and behavioral sciences, public
services, and education and professional and applied science fields.
Wang is founder and president of worldwide
technology company Pantronix Corp., according to the CSU Public Affairs
office. |
