Paper's b-day great news
Our fine newspaper celebrated its 50th birthday
on Thursday.
The momentous event drew editors and reporters,
both past and present, and faculty and staff members to the fifth floor
of the University Library.
It was a proud moment for us. Knowing that
we are taking the Daily Forty-Niner into the new millennium gives us an
honor that many people would not understand, we however, are excited to
be the staff to close out the first 50 years of the periodical.
The occasion was also a great chance to
meet other people who have dealt with the same things we deal with every
Monday through Thursday.
We found that "some things never change"
after sharing stories and fond memories with some former editors.
The fact that the Forty-Niner has been
publishing for more than 50 years is an accomplishment in itself.
The way trends and fads go in Southern
California, there are not many organizations that can make the same claim.
But the Forty-Niner has been serving the campus community since its humble
beginnings.
The amazing thing is that since the dawn
of this fine publication, we have not missed an issue.
Maybe the paper arrived late a few times,
but it eventually was distributed.
We appreciate the hard work of those who
were locked in this newsroom before us.
We hope that future staffers will appreciate
the legacy of excellence that we helped create and maintain. |
