The Long Beach State men's water polo team came away with two victories over the weekend, defeating Air Force and UC San Diego to improve its overall record to 11-10.

The 49ers' traveled to La Jolla Sunday and defeated No. 9 UCSD (16-10) for the third time this season, 12-8.

After being down 6-2 at the half, the Tritons outscored the 49ers 6-2 in the third quarter to tie the game. But in the fourth, the 49ers outscored the Tritons 4-0, including a Patrick Cochran two-point goal with 52 seconds left, to seal the victory.

Seniors Corey Dolley and Patrick Cochran led the 49ers' scoring attack with four and three goals respectively, with each contributing four points. Triton senior Ross Mecham scored five goals, including a two-pointer.

Spurred by sophomore Chris Segesman's four second-quarter goals, the 49ers' cruised to a 9-5 victory against No. 14  Air Force (19-8) Saturday at the Campus Pool. After being tied at one in the first, the 49ers' outscored the Falcons 6-1 in the second and never looked back.

The 49ers have a 17-6 all-time record against Air Force.

The four goals in the second quarter "was just my teammates getting me open," Segesman said. "Most of those goals came off the counterattack, and my teammates gave me great passes."

Both Segesman and Head Coach Ricardo Azevedo credited conditioning for the 49ers' improved counterattack, providing for several easy scoring chances against Air Force.

"These guys have really been hitting the weights," Azevedo said. "We out-countered Stanford last time we played, and I think we're now one of the fastest teams in the nation."

Five other 49ers scored goals in the win. Junior Chad Simendinger led the Falcons with two goals.

The 49ers lead the all-time series 33-5.

The team travels to UC Irvine tonight to take on the No. 10 Anteaters at 7 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contest. The Anteaters won the teams' only meeting so far this season, handing the 49ers a 7-5 loss Oct. 19 at Belmont Plaza Pool.

The 49ers will face the defending national champions Sunday when they play No. 3 USC in Los Angeles.
