A student on rollerskates was injured Tuesday
evening when she collided with a vehicle at a campus intersection, sending
her to an area hospital with minor injuries.
At 7 p.m., Rebecca Selin, 18, was hit as
she crossed the intersection of Merriam Way and State University Drive.
The car was driven by Dwayne Nelson, 45,
said University Police Chief Jack Pearson.
"I blanked out when the car hit me," said
Selin, who sustained an abrasion on the side of her face.
Pearson said: "He failed to see her. It
was dark out. She didn't see him either."
After being hit by Nelson's Hyundai, Selin
fell to the ground but remained conscious.
"She complained of dizziness and of having
a headache," Pearson said.
Long Beach Fire Department paramedics raced
to the scene and attended to Selin. She was transported to Long Beach
Community Medical Center, where she was treated and released.
The police investigation revealed that
Nelson was driving at about 10 to15 miles per hour and Selin was skating
at about 7to 8 mph when they collided. |
