With shotguns drawn
and a helicopter hovering above, police officers surrounded a man at Anaheim
Street and Studebaker Road after police were told someone had flashed a
gun at another driver on the 605 Freeway, police and eyewitnesses said.
The man, whose identity
was not disclosed, was arrested for displaying an imitation firearm in
a threatening manner, said Mike Barnum, watch commander for the Los Angeles
County Sheriffs, Lakewood station.
He was later released
because the misdemeanor was not committed in the presence of an officer,
Barnum said.
About 10 police cars
from the University Police, Long Beach Police Department and Los Angeles
County Sheriffís Department packed the house-lined street behind a 7-Eleven
store.
The man was detained
around 11 a.m. as merchants and residents gathered to watch the spectacle.
Police searched the man wearing a tie and a blue shirt and then searched
his car, several eyewitnesses said. |
