After seven years as dean of the College
of Business Administration at Cal State Long Beach, Mike Walter announced
he is stepping down to assume a faculty position.
Walter resigned in a letter to the administration
early last month.
"I have decided that now would be the opportune
time for both the college and me," Walter said in the letter.
His last day as dean was Oct. 8. Walter
was unavailable for comment.
Walter did not specify the exact reason
for his resignation in the letter.
However, he praised the college's achievements
over the past seven years under his watch.
"We now have the highest representation
of women and minorities among our students, faculty and staff in the college's
history," Walter wrote.
"This issue is fundamental to my value
structure."
He also said CSULB has become one of the
"leading urban universities in America."
Walter was well-known business guru in
Long Beach, in addition to his work at CSULB.
He became chairman of the board of the
Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce in June 1999, a position he said he
will maintain.
He also served as president of the International
Business Association.
Walter will leave today for Japan as a
member of a delegation made up of Long Beach city, chamber and port executives.
He will stay in Japan for two weeks and
will attend the U.S. Conference of Mayors and Chamber of Commerce Presidents
in Kitakyushu.
Barbara Crutchfield George, the college's
former associate dean of academic affairs, is set to assume Walter's position. |
