Sting release delivers

By Shreya Bhakta

Sting is still a hopeless romantic.

His new album, "Brand New Day," is a joy for the ears and melts the heart.

The lyrics in each song are thoughtful and portray happiness and love.

"My challenge was to write a happy love song without being banal or smug," said Sting in a press release.

All the songs are splendidly put together. It is evident that Sting spent a great deal of time composing the songs on this album, which has elements of Middle Eastern rhythms, country, jazz, gospel and pop-rock.

"Trying to write simple pop songs over a compound time is my idea of a crossword puzzle, or three-dimensional chess," Sting said.

"Desert Rose" is one of the songs that lingers in your mind.

The song is about dreaming of the ideal world, but he finds himself waking up to pain.

The last verse of this song leaves one in awe of Sting's lyrical abilities: "Sweet desert rose/ This memory of Eden haunts us all/ This desert flower, this rare perfume/ Is this sweet intoxication of the fall."

"Perfect LoveÖGone Wrong," is a song about a relationship threatened by a third person.

Sting writes this particular song from a perspective of a puppy with a humorous tone.

"I howl all night and I sleep all day/ Take more than a biscuit baby to chase these blues away/ Got a long enough leash/ I could almost hang myself/ It's a dog life loving you baby/ When you love someone else," Sting sings.

The final song, "Brand New Day," is about broken lives being healed by taking a stand for love.

This album gives hope to all those hurt by failed relationships.
