Gray strikes out
In an attempt to possibly show his integrity
as a journalist, NBC reporter Jim Gray came out looking like a wimp.
Gray, who covers baseball, basketball and
boxing, apologized Tuesday night for his aggressive questioning of baseball
legend Pete Rose during a baseball awards ceremony.
The apology came after members of the New
York Yankees refused to speak to Gray following Game 3 of the World Series.
Gray should not have apologized for doing
what he did. He should have apologized for doing it during the awards ceremony.
Although the entire world knows about Rose's
past gambling problems, he was still being honored as one of Major League
Baseball's best players of the century before Game 2 of the World Series
Sunday night.
Come on, the whole world knows about Rose's
gambling problems, yet they do not care. He was only one of 30 members
of Major League Baseball's all-century team, for Pete's (pun intended)
sake.
The interview should have been conducted
behind closed doors. You don't pick one of the world's most highly viewed
television programs to bash "Charlie Hustle."
Gray is a very tough interviewer and loves
to get to the heart of the matter, just ask athletes from all sports.
Unless NBC feels they have to fire Gray
for doing his job, he will continue doing what he does best: putting athletes
on the spot with the tough questions.
Yes, Gray silenced the mobs of angry viewers
with an apology, but we're sure he will not lose his integrity over one
little controversy. |
