Scared stiff
It's that time of year again. Time for the
leaves to change colors and fall to the Earth. And most of all, it is time
for the ghosts, goblins and various other things that go bump in the night
to return from the great beyond.
That's right, October is the month of spirits.
And not the liquid type.
With the revered All Hallows Eve
quickly approaching, both the living and the recently deceased are making
all the necessary preparations.
While the specters are mustering all their
paranormal energies to reek havoc on the world of the living, we are running
around setting our own ghoulish agendas for the wicked evening.
Many people decide to partake in monstrous
parties where the living dress up as their favorite after-life creatures.
There are the traditional favorites like Dracula, Wolfman, ghosts, witches
and Frankenstein's monster in addition to the more fantastic phantasms.
Then there are the wild ones who choose
to venture into the dark underworld of the undead.
Many cities and businesses run these haunted
homes in spirit of the holiday. Knott's Scary Farm, Six Flags Fright Fest
and Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights are just a few macabre examples
of this.
Chill-seekers will wait hours upon hours
in line just to gain entrance to these gory ghost havens. This begs the
question, why does everyone go batty for this spooky holiday?
We think it's because people love to be
scared. They feed on the adrenaline rush like a vampire on a virgin's neck.
Besides, coming to grips with the undead may help prepare us for what may
lurk on the other side of the grave. |
