New show needs woman's touch

By Tom Harshbarger
Daily Forty-Niner

If anything ever qualified as truly packaged, "The Man Show," is it.

Its humor is like comedian Tim Allen's now defunct show "Home Improvement" on steroids: unabashedly for and about guys.

TV REVIEW: C-

Hosted by Adam Corolla of MTV's "Love Line" and "Win Ben Stein's Money" game show co-host, Jimmy Kimmel, this Comedy Central offering takes a humorous look at what men are about with scantily clad women, beer and masturbation jokes.

One of the funnier bits, a skit to be aired on an upcoming episode called "Household Tips from Porn Stars" features Jenna Jameson removing tarnish from silver candlesticks for a cheap sexual innuendo.

Another feature of the show is an old man called "the Fox." He plays the piano, dresses in an old-fashioned train conductor's uniform, and guzzles beer at an alarming pace.

He does this so proficiently that it leads me to believe that they aren't drinking real beer -- at least not the Fox, anyway.

Another segment, called "Man-oventions," features gizmos designed to make life as a man a little easier.

The featured "Man-ovention" is part urinal and part carnival attraction.

The object of the contraption is to blow up a balloon until it pops by aiming a stream of urine at a target.

Yes, it's rude and crude, at least to the extent that a cable station can be.

"The Man Show" has its moments, but it needs more refinement before it really becomes worth watching.

"The Man Show" airs on Comedy Central Wednesday nights with new episodes starting Nov. 3.
