Bus detour wrong for CSULB students

When I returned to school Monday, I first took a brisk walk to the campus.  The only problem was this walk was totally unexpected.

On Monday morning, just as bus No. 171 was approaching Bellflower Boulevard, the driver informed the passengers that the bus would not be entering the campus.

I walked from Bellflower Boulevard and Anaheim Road to the campus entrance and saw two Long Beach Transit employees putting up large detour notices at the bus stop.

They said the buses were detoured because Cal State Long Beach called the agency that morning and told agency officials to reroute the buses off campus "until further notice."

Later I spoke with officials from CSULB's Parking and Transportation Services and asked them why the buses were taken off campus.

CSULB could have picked up the ball and ran an emergency campus shuttle that would take students from campus shuttle stops to the major public transit stops near the campus.
