May makes play

By Elyse Medlin

Misty May is gone. Our beloved volleyball princess has graduated and left Long Beach State. But where, oh where can she be?

Last reports linked May with Olympic aspirations as she tried out for the U.S. Womenís National Volleyball team.

Now, the word is out: Misty May has moved into the two-man volleyball circuit.

She was with the national team preparing for the Olympics and she left, LBSU Head Coach Brian Gimmillaro said. Sheís going to try to make it into the Olympics on a two-man team, he said.

"Misty [May] is a big part of our history here," Gimmillaro said. "We wanted to prepare her for her future and we have done that."

May was an All-American three times and National Player of the Year twice. She was the setter for teams that made it to the final four twice. She is, quite possibly, the finest womenís volleyball player ever.

The 49er women's volleyball team is currently ranked No.5 in the nation. Today's game against No. 23 ranked Kansas State will be the first without May. Her presence will  surely be missed.
