It was another split this weekend for the Long Beach State women's soccer team. The 49ers defeated Cal State Fullerton (2-1) but lost to UC Irvine (3-1).

Head Coach Julie Cochran said she was pleased with her team's performance.

"I was pleased with three out of the four quarters. They [49ers] played poorly against Irvine," Cochran said.

Sunday, the Anteaters swallowed the 49ers by scoring three unanswered goals.

Although the 49ers scored first, they weren't able to hold the lead. In the 35th minute of the match, 49er freshman midfielder Sarah Aguilar scored, assisted by sophomore defender Jenna Koontz.

However, the Anteaters ate up the 49ers in the second half to win the match. UCI's Cyndi Tredway scored two goals, while teammate Janelle Doyle scored the third goal to seal the win for the Anteaters.

"We should've won both games. The whole team was key to the loss," Cochran said.

The 49ers clinched their fifth win of the season on Friday against the Cal State Fullerton Titans (2-1).

LBSU took the lead early in the first half. Junior midfielder Heather Mears scored a corner kick within eight minutes of the match. Aguilar assisted her to keep the lead into the half.

The Titans came charging back in the second half to tie the score. CSF's Tennli Ulicny kicked the ball from 20 yards to score right past 49er goalkeeper Jihan Elgazzar.

The 49ers came back to score the winning goal. Freshman defender Tiffany Landgraff scored on a corner kick passed from sophomore forward Kim Stempowski with 11 minutes left in the game.

This weekend, the 49ers will host Cal Poly and UCSB at George Allen Field.
